Born in Louiseville,
in the Mauricie region, Pascal Béland first took up the guitar
in high school, playing primarily classic and progressive rock music.
He gradually began to take an interest in traditional music, discovering
it alongside fellow Langues Fourchues member Jean-François
Branchaud in his teens. His interest piqued, he began developing
his own style of guitar accompaniment, percussive and melodic at
the same time, and is now considered to be one of the most unique
and original players in the province. Aside from his work with Les
Langues Fourchues, Pascal also accompanies Laval dance troupe La
Foulée, and was one of the key musicians on the recent solo
release by celebrated Quebecois fiddler Claude Méthé.
Pascal is also a violin maker, working at the respected Wilder &
Davis workshop in Montreal.
